A great start, to a hopefully great season!

Monaco 1 – Nenê(44)
Toulouse 0 –

So this night the season began for Lés Monegasques. And it began greatly! We put on a great offensive display despite not having a really great goalscorer, and we fought greatly, when we were reduced to ten men with fifteen minutes to go. The offense dominated the game and caused the Toulouse defense a lot of trouble. We had Nenê and Pino on the wings, and up front we had Bakar and Park. Those four was very dangerous and each had their chance to score. But even though we had a lot chances, it was first in the 44th minute that we scored. It was Nenê who scored. It was from a great pass from Park, that put Nenê alone in front of the goal with Toulouse keeper Blondel, and he had no chance of saving it when Nenê placed the ball beautifully into the top of the net. After the half we kept on creating chances and it was really a joy to watch such nice football from us. but in the 75th minute Diego Perez got a red card, and suddenly we were forced to pull out a striker and put in a new defender. That led to that Bakaer had to leave the field for Thomas Mangani. After that the offensive display from Monaco stopped. Toulouse started putting the pressure on, but Monaco kept on and helt onto the lead! That was after some beautiful rescues from keeper Stéphane Ruffier. Then it was all over, and we could leave Stade Louis ll with a result to be proud of. Hopefully we can keep on playing like this, when we next take on AS Nancy who won this evening 3-1 over Valenciennes. That was it for this time! See you :)

Season preview

By: Christoffer | Comments 1 Comment

Well the season is about to get underway for Lés Monegasques, and after a terrible mercato(As Richard demonstrated in his latest post), we can only hope for the best this season. Hopefully we will get a player or two though. We have a lot of talent on our team but we lack a midfield general and a goal-scorer. We were close to getting Savidan but he unfortunately retired, and we are still looking for that midfield general. Those two things is what in my opinion will keep us away from the battle for the top 3 spots. Cause we actually have a lot of talent on this team, as seen when the top 50 Ligue 1 prospects came out. We had Djamel Bakar, Cedric Mongongu, Frederic Nimani, Malaury Martin, Nicolas Nkoulou, Lukman Haruna, Yohan Mollo and Juan Pablo Pino. That is 8 prospects on the top 50 list, which means that we are one of the teams with the most prospects, and that clearly shows that we have the talent to succeed. But we just lack to the things I said. A midfield general and a goal-scorer. As of right now we might have found the midfield general. That is Eduardo Costa from Sao Paulo. He is a true leader and he plays with a lot of heart, but let’s not get our hopes high after all the failed transfers we have gotten this mercato. But as of now we got what we got, and coach Lacombe will try to make the best of it. He have proved to be great working with talents, and maybe he will make our talents explode onto the stage this season. But as of now that is wishful thinking. My prediction for our team right now is that we are a “team of the future” and if we can keep our talents for a year or two we will be in the battle for top 3 soon. But for right now if we don’t make a move in the transfer market we will in my opinion end as the 7th place in the league. That is not a bad position, but with our history we should be able to get higher than that. But let’s hope that we will surprise everyone this season and maybe come out with a spot in the Europa League. Let’s see! The season starts tomorrow against Toulouse!

Hull>>>the south of France?!

By: Richard | Comments 7 Comments

This is getting laughable.

Let’s say you have a team on the French Riviera with a proud history. Shouldn’t be too hard to attract players, should it? Let’s look and laugh at how Monaco’s transfer targets changed over the summer. I will play myself, and my partner in the conversation will be the collective gods of football…

Me: hmm, we need an attacker…how about RVN?
TGOF: yeah, right.
Me: Shevchenko?
TGOF: keep dreaming.
Me: Julio Cruz?
TGOF: sorry.
Me: OK, maybe we were aiming too high. Maybe we should stay within the confines of Ligue 1.
TGOF: Good idea.
Me: Savidan?
TGOF: YES!…but he will retire before joining.
Me: How about Dindane?
TGOF: Who?
Me: Aruna Dindane? from Lens…he used to be good.
TGOF: Ummmm, no.
Me: Alright, i’m getting a headache. Let’s leave the topic of forwards for now. Let’s talk about the defense and the midfield. What can you offer me?
TGOF: How about Coutadeur?
Me: Really?!
TGOF: No.
Me: I heard Olofinjana wants to join us from Stoke.
TGOF: Nah, he’s going to Hull.
Me: Hull?!! Are you kidding me? A guy who has already spent a year at Stoke would rather play out a relegation battle in Hull over us?! We’re in the south of France, for ****’s sake!
TGOF: Calm down, calm down. I do have an exciting bit of news for you.
Me: Really? What’s that?
TGOF: Mourinho will pay 4 million euros for Pino.
Me: I’m leaving.

Monaco begin the season this weekend against Toulouse.

This man will be famous! (somewhere else)

By: Richard | Comments 3 Comments

It’s not something I’m proud of, but let’s face facts: Monaco are a feeder club in a feeder league. As I have mentioned in previous posts, in recent years l’ASM has provided more talent to top European teams than ANY other club (Ajax are a possible exception). Henry, Trezeguet, Adebayor, Yaya Toure, Marquez, the list goes on and on…

So, who will be the next former Monaco player who becomes world famous once he leaves? The smart money is on Colombian winger/forward Juan Pablo Pino. Easily the most talented player at Monaco after the departure of Menez, the 22 year-old is already being watched by a number of English clubs and apparently Rijkaard wants to bring him to Galatasaray as well.

I could go on about his pace and skill at dribbling, but I think this video best displays his talent and potential. If we can’t keep him, let’s hope we can at least get a decent transfer fee…

(PS: A special thanks to my new blog partner Christoffer, who has done a fine job since joining. Well done, mate.) There has been a lot more transfer talk concerning Monaco players lately, I’m sure he will tell you all about it soon…

A new addition and transfer rumours

By: Christoffer | Comments Add Comments

Sebastian Puygrenier have today signed a year deal with AS Monaco to be on loan with us. The former Zenit player have experienced success in france football before when he was with Nancy, and was close to the national team. Then Zenit signed him, but he never had a breakthrough in Russia. So he was loaned to Bolton with option to buy, but neither here did he have a nice season. So now he is back in french football hoping to succeed. He said this in his first interwiev with Monaco: “I am very happy to be in Monaco. This is a great club but unfortunately in a rebuilding process, but I really like what coach Lacombe is putting together, and I want to be a part of it, and lead Moanco back to success”. I like what I am hearing from our new Monégasque and it sounds like he is very motivated to play here in Monaco. But now to something else. This weeks transfer rumours.

In

Seyi Olofinjana: After a strong start in english premier league club Stoke. Olofinjana had a setback, and was put on the bench. Now Lacombe wants to pick him up and the rumours are saying that we have already made a 3€ million bid for him. I went to the Stoke forum for some rewiev of Olofinjana, and they actually praised him, despite him beeing only on the bench. They called him a work-horse, consistens and so on. So it could be a nice purchase if we go get him.

Out

Patrick Müller: We might actually be able to get some money for him! Servette Geneve are interested in him. He has told that is interested in moving back to Switzerland, even though it is back in the 2 division. The amount have not been told but it should not be a lot of money. but at least we are getting something for him.

Jerko Leko: Leko was close to a move to Stoke, but then Wolverhampton got in the race for him and now he is splitted between the two clubs. He should decide very soon where he wants to go. The amount is said to be around 3€ million but it could become higher if an eventually pricewar could happen between Wolves and Stoke.

Not a lot of transfer rumours at this time which I am very dissapointed about. I really want a striker now that Savidan didn’t change after medical problems, but hopefully we can get a new one soon. That is all for this time. See you soon :)

Official: Savidan won’t come to Monaco

By: Christoffer | Comments Add Comments

Today the press conference regarding Steve Savidans medical problems was held. He told the press that during his medical tests with Monaco, they discovered serious heart problems. Theese problems have caused Monaco to break off negotiations with Caen. And following that Savidan could stop his career. Here is a quote from the press conference from Steve Savidan: “I am very sad over not being able to join Monaco. It would have been a dream come true for me. But for now I have to focus about my career, but unfortunately it doesn’t look good for me”. He will return to Caen, and undergo a series of tests to see if he will be able to play at the top level again. But a miracle will have to happen if he will be able to do that. This is very sad news for Monaco, as we just thought we had that top striker to take our offense to the next level. Mark Keller our CEO said during the press conference that he really felt for Steve, and that he wishes him the best of luck, and that he is always welcome in Monaco. He would be allowed to come watch all the games on our home field.

Monaco now have to start looking for a new striker, and one striker have already been mentioned. Obafemi Martins! Newcastle have announced that they will have to sell him now that they have relegated to the Coca-cola championship in England. He could also come at a fair price with Newcastles financial problems. I would personally be very happy to see a striker of Martins level come to Monaco but let’s see how it will evolve.
In other news our talented keeper Stephane Ruffier have prolonged his stay here in Monaco! He signed a contract until 2013 and will therefore not be sold this season. Also defender Cedric Mongongu have signed a new contract. It will as Ruffier also go to 2013. This is great news that Guy Lacombe is keeping all our talents with longterm deals. So some positive news there was, but still a sad day in Monaco. I wish Steve Savidan all the best in his future. Very sad for him.
That is it for this time, I will be back with news soon.

No Savidan after all!

By: Christoffer | Comments 2 Comments

Horrible news coming out of Monaco!
Savidan was set for the move to Monaco but after various medical tests, it was revealed that Steve Savidan is having heart problems. Therefore he will not be going to Monaco, and neither will he be going anywhere else. Cause this will mean that Savigol will retire from football! This have been reported by L’Equipe, Fox Sports and Francefootball.
Very sad news to hear for Monaco, as we just thought that we had our top striker, but then such a terrible thing happens. He is scheduled for a press conference later this day to tell the public about his situation, and it is expected that he will announce his retirement from football.
The question now remains as who our new target for the striker position will be. The most serious rumours of another striker besides Savidan has been Seydou Doumbia. But that is nothing really serious.

I will update as soon as Savidans press conference has been completed and tell you if he will play for Monaco or if the rumours are true that he will retire. Stay tuned!

Transfer roundup:

By: Christoffer | Comments 2 Comments

There are a lot rumours down on the Cote D’Azur as Guy Lacombe wants to start get rid of all the players he doesn’t have in his plans and instead bringing in some new faces. That has led to the signing of Djimi Traore and soon possibly also some other players. So here is a round-up of the incoming and outgoing transfer rumours.

In:

Steve Savidan: The rumours are saying that he could sign with us anyday. The only thing preventing the transfer from happening has been his price-tag, but according to various sources, they are very close to an agreement that should be just about 4,5 million €. So Savidan should be able to join Les Monegasques here in the upcoming days. That is almost for sure! He will be a great mentor for all our youngsters on the team.

Mathieu Coutadeur: A lot of rumours are saying that he has made his choice about his future destination, and according to various sources it is said that it is Monaco! He should have agreed to a contract worth of 3 years, but the price of him has yet to be worked out. Hopefully it can be done in the next days so he can join the team as soon as possible.

Andriy Schevchenko: Well this is just a rumour about us offering him a 3 year deal, but I just don’t see it happening with us about to sign Steve Savidan. The rumours of him coming to Monaco has been on and off, but quite frankly I don’t want him here in Monaco. He has lost his form and his salary demands will be huge. So don’t count on this happening, but still funny to think that such a big player have been rumoured to us.

Out:

Jerko Leko: Leko isn’t in Lacombe’s plans for our future, and according to a lot of sources(Skysports) he could join Wolverhampton as soon as this week! The price have been worked out between the clubs and it should be just around 2 million €. So the clean up in our squad has indeed begun.

Patrick Müller: He is old, and not in our plans and if we are not able to sell him, he will be released. He is one of many players on the transfer list in Monaco, and he should be gone very soon!

So some nice players could come to Monaco. I am most excited about the rumours of Coutadeur and I really hope it is true. He passes the ball great and gets all the players on the team involved in the attack, and I believe that with him passing the ball to our wings Mollo and Pino we will have a nice midfield here in the upcoming season.
That is all for this time. I will be back with the next transfer roundup.
