Our away kits: you like? (plus more bios)
By: Richard | July 19th, 2008

Here are some action shots of our away kits for this season in the recent friendly against NK Zagreb. The shade of the shirts and the manufacturer is reminiscent of Lazio. The club calls it sky blue. What do you think? I love them, I think they’re easily more elegant than the pretentious gold away kits of the recent past.
Ligue 1 followers should recognize the man in the first picture, it is none other than Camel Meriem. He has previously played for Marseille and Bordeaux, and is an attacking midfielder of Algerian descent (no prizes for guessing who he was compared to in his younger years!). He has been plagued by injuries and inconsistent play recently and was rumored to be on his way to Saint-Étienne earlier this summer. Personally, I think he can still achieve his vast potential and I hope he stays.
Beneath him is Djamel Bakar. At 19 years of age, he is one of the most exciting young players in Ligue 1. He’s really more of an attacking midfielder or winger than an out-and-out forward, but Monaco’s lack of a reliable No. 9 and general scoring ineptitude meant he played a number of roles last season. A native of Marseille, I always feared that he would leave for OM in the near future, but his stock has risen so rapidly that Inter and Barcelona are already sniffing around. Definitely a man to watch this season…
