I knew it all along…

…I just can’t prove it.

I haven’t blogged in awhile. The last time I was ready to post, ASM was in second. I had written a long post titled ‘End the Season Now!’, which basically said I was thrilled by our early-season results but I know we had no chance at keeping this up. Nene is not going to keep leading the Ligue 1 scoring charts, Gudjohnsen is still crap and Park won’t score enough goals. Some sort of internet problem destroyed my post and I was too pissed off to rewrite it.

Of course, it’s easy to post this now and pretend I knew all along, but I did. This team has severe goalscoring problems that will probably keep it out of Europe. That’s zero goals in 3 matches and we have fallen from 2nd to 6th and we will be lower than that after Sunday’s games.

As for this particular game, it’s no big shame losing to the new league leaders at their park, but I would have liked at least one goal. We hardly threatened the Auxerre goal. Coutadeur was horrible, Park could not pull any rabbits from his hat, and our Icelandic striker remains ice-cold. (5 starts, 1 sub appearance, 0 goals)

Call this an over-reaction if you want, but the Gudjohnsen experiment is a failure. If Monaco wants to go anywhere this year, they need to find a striker in the winter. If you think otherwise, you haven’t been watching. He is a Championship-level striker at best.

Yeah, Gudjohnsen has been useless. And I hate to see that though. I always like seeing players from small countries make it. Still, I think it says something about the quality of play in Ligue 1 as well, if a former Barca player can’t make it here.

Still, to be fair to Monaco, you guys didn’t have Nene, which hurt you. I don’t think Park can do it alone, though I do have a lot of respect for the Park.

Nimani should be used instead of Guddy. He’s quite the talent and needs first team experience to develop.

i agree, Thomas. i’m not mad at the board and i don’t have anything personal against Gudjohnsen. i was excited when they signed him and hoped he would do well–it’s just apparent that he is shot, and it’s best to cut our losses and move on. strictly business.

Do you know if the cancellation is due to swine flu with Monaco players? Or just Montpellier players? Both?
