Grenoble 1-0 ASM: chemistry? who needs chemistry?
By: Richard | September 1st, 2008Grenoble 1 (Moreira 19)
AS Monaco 0
A team struggling for goals sells Menez to Roma and loans Nene to Espanyol. What could go wrong?
Monaco sank to their first defeat of the season after a wretched and completely toothless performance in Grenoble. I’m not sure we managed a single shot on goal. We threw Freddy on for the last 8 or so minutes to no avail. Moreira volleyed in a cross that was not cleared properly and that was it. I’d tell you more about this match but it was crushingly dull.
So…4 matches, 3 goals, and the best two offensive players on the team have both left the club this week. Who will be our savior? Who will be the big money signing to return ASM to its former glory? How about a rank outsider and a few players so old even AC Milan would turn them away?

ASM have signed the ‘Korean Jimmy Greaves’, Park Chu-Young (above) to wear the number 10 shirt for around 2 million Euros. He’s the wonderkid of Korea, apparently, and has had numerous Premiership clubs sniffing around him at one point or another. This could work out nicely, but reeks of marketing rather than footballing potential.
Potential is nice, but sometimes you want a real goalscoring pedigree. That must be why the board is trying to lure Pauleta to the rock. He is (was?) a great goalscorer, but he’s 1000 years old and you’d have to imagine he’d rather play in Paris or Portugal or anywhere else before coming here, so I’ll believe it when I see it.
Alvaro Recoba is also hotly rumored to be arriving shortly. This sounds like a great move, but Recoba is also quite old and he is a long way away from his best form at Inter (he stunk up the place at Torino)
Last but not least, according to the info I am seeing, ex-Lyon defender Patrick Muller will be signing for us later today. I guess it’s a decent move considering how injury has plagued the defense, but players usually become free agents for a reason, if you catch my drift…

You didnt mention Tiago. I read that Juventus is ready to loan him out to us. Also I read that Recoba prefers Blackburn and the EPL. I like the Muller signing because we beat out PSG for him. The Pauleta stuff I dont believe. Just a few weels ago there were rumors of him going to Marseiile. If they dont get Recoba or Pauleta though they are really screwed because they need another attacker badly as you mentioned.

not any time soon, Gaston. it’s more likely that you’ll see Monaco in Ligue 2 the way things are going…

Richard ?
I kinda think that you are overreacting !
Ligue 2 ?!?!?!1 victory, 2 draw and 1 loss, isn’t all bad.. Monaco have a lot of injuries and when they get back they will play a lot better, we have Alejandro Alonso injured and he played a magnificent game against PSG.. We also have Gakpe which is one of our goalscorers.. Nimani has shown that he can score goals, and if this Cou Young Park is so great to dribble and can make great passes, then i think we will have a dynamic duo with Pino playing left wing-Nimani playing center-And Park playing right..
And when Alonso will come back from injury we will also have a fine midfield, Meriem-Gosso-Alonso.. That isn’t bad and our defense has been okay..
So Ligue 2 ?!?! Forget about it and think of a position in top 10
