ASM 1-1 Caen plus mercato-mania
By: Richard | August 26th, 2008AS Monaco 1 (Nimani 52)
Caen 1 (Leko 74og)
Sorry about the late report….anyway, this match was very similar to last week’s match with Nantes in that Monaco had decent chances but only managed one goal and then the opposition equalized through a fluke. The lack of a number #9 continues to haunt the club, though that may soon be remedied (see below).
Despite the need for a proven goalscorer, young Nimani must be praised for the constant danger he caused. He buzzed around constantly in the first half, hitting the crossbar with a decent shot. His goal was pretty funny, I don’t know if Caen played the offside trap really poorly or just fell asleep, but he ran past a stationary defense and sent a looping header over a stunned Plante in the Caen goal.
However, Caen continued to fight, mostly through the efforts of Savidan (when did he leave Valenciennes?). Pino fouled the Caen striker and Leko deflected the resulting free kick past Roma. Two points lost again, although I would say Caen deserved their point more than Nantes did last week.
3 minutes from time, ASM brought on Freddy. Woo-hoo!
L’Equipe suddenly has us listed with a gang of players, including ex-Le Mans striker Grafite and OAPer Sylvain Wiltord.
